In fact - I wouldn't think it long before they start using this process to get rid of some of the overpriced 'talent' in Hollywood...

It's taken five years for that level of ability to improve from the work I saw at SIGGRAPH in 2003. Some extremely excellent work was shown then in short animations, and getting multiple layers to skin for reflectivity values was a major step forward for animation, then. Once you did that, got individual hairs to move on the skin and head, then it was just the small stuff left to take it the next step forward. At this point it is evolutionary in nature and the question is: will the silicon underpinnings run out before the advancements necessary reach to that 2020 period?
There are some hard physics problems with circuitry over the next 5 years or so... that will be the end of Moore's law for 2D silicon and semi-conductors. The two ways to out - extend circuitry to 3D or go quantum. The first is evolutionary the second requires a revolution in computer design.
