Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
Internet Archive: Details: The book of record of the time capsule of cupaloy, deemed capable of resisting the effects of time for five thousand years, preserving an account of universal achievements, embedded in the grounds of the New York World's fair, 1939Would that our 'leaders' had such confidence now...Each age considers itself the pinnacle &final triumph above all eras that have gone before. In our time many believe that the human race has reached the ultimate in material and social development ; others, that humanity shall march onward to achievements splendid beyond the imagination of this day, to new worlds of human wealth, power, life, and happiness. We choose, with the latter, to believe that men will solve the problems of the world, that the human race will triumph over its limitations and its adversities, that the future will be glorious.
TO THE PEOPLE OF THAT FUTURE
WE LEAVE THIS LEGACY

Have you heard of the Long Now Foundation ( www.longnow.org )? They are working on building a self-correcting MECHANICAL clock with a designed operational life span of 10,000 years. Of course, they are not a governmental agency...

"Would that our 'leaders' had such confidence now... "
Eight years of having a chimp idiot in the White House has dropped public expectations dramatically, as your comment above indicates -- but there is hope on the horizon - and it ain't John MCBush.

Y'know, I feel the same way about that last comment as I do when the cat walks to the center of the living room carpet and hawks up a hairball: Disgusting. Meaningless. But the poor dumb animal can't help it. I guess...

You should see the blog he provides content for, Ron. Wizbangblue is an offshoot of Wizbangblog - they created it to (I think) keep Lee from fouling up the comments section of Wizbangblog.
Anyway, I managed to get banned from WizBangBlue - but I was quite acceptable when I thought Obama wasn't a suitable candidate and he was supporting Hillary. But she lost the nomination, and *click* all of a sudden Oceania was no longer at war with Eastasia, indeed had NEVER been at war with them. Obama is now the messiah, and always has been.
He and Reality don't have even a nodding acquaintance...
And I thought about banning him - but... why? I don't figure he'll be a regular, and he's a good reminder of why, even if there isn't a candidate you particularly want to vote FOR, there's usually one you can find to vote AGAINST.
Usually the one touted by the likes of Lee.

Jerry,
That sounds like a good reason to keep an unpleasant commenter around (within reason). There are movie critics whose taste is exactly the opposite of mine. They're just as helpful as the critics I agree with.
Lee,
If you're trying to persuade people -- and I don't think you are -- keep the ad hominems unsaid. You might as well just type, "I'm an unpleasant jerk and I want you to know it." It's quicker.

Well, like I said, I don't figure he'll be a regular. And he's not doing this to persuade people - he's doing it because he feels good about it.
Though I do believe he realizes his platform may not be as solid as he thinks it is...
