What happens when you get a House full of lawyers? The first recourse is litigation.
House passes bill to sue OPEC over oil prices | ReutersHE doesn't want to tick off the folks we get our oil from.WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved legislation on Tuesday allowing the Justice Department to sue OPEC members for limiting oil supplies and working together to set crude prices, but the White House threatened to veto the measure.
You ever get the feeling that the folks in Washington WANT $10/gallon gas?
The bill would subject OPEC oil producers, including Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela, to the same antitrust laws that U.S. companies must follow. And how are we supposed to enforce that?
The measure passed in a 324-84 vote, a big enough margin to override a presidential veto. They can't be bothered to approve drilling in the US, but they'll go to great lenghts to kick the folks who sell us oil.
Who the heck is advising these clowns?

One thing I got out of the articles I read on this was that some of our refineries are owned by foreign states. Apparently that's the basis for this suit thing. While I agree with you on the overall stupidity, that little fact sure made me want to know more.
I guess the good thing is that they can't take those refineries home with them. They could shut them down, though. Or blow them up(which is what I think the US companies that owned the refineries in Venezuela should have done before allowing Chavez to take them over).
