A day late, a million short...

Kerry vows to disprove Swift boat claims - Yahoo! News

BOSTON - Sen. John Kerry, whose 2004 presidential campaign was torpedoed by critics of his Vietnam War record, said Friday he has personally accepted a Texas oilman's offer to pay $1 million to anyone who can disprove even a single charge of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

And at this point - why should we even care? It's not like he's relevant to this election cycle. Or will ever be on the short-list for President. He's had his chance and thankfully didn't make it.

But one thing's puzzling me.

If he's indeed innocent of the charges leveled against him, why does he want to challenge a millionaire with a megabuck to 'prove' his innocence? Or is it a simple "Look at me, look at me!" attention-getting attempt?

Oh, well. Time to go back to ignoring Kerry again.

Who's the ultimate judge of whether he succeeds or not? I have the distinct feeling that some of the decisions will come down to value judgements, which is sort of like no decision at all. Those who agree will agree, those who disagree will disagree...

You're right, though. If he doesn't intend to run again, there's really no point. Maybe he intends to run again? Surely not...but then again, it _is_ Kerry...

Look at it this way - it may turn out to totally vindicate the Swift Boat veterans...

Ran across this link on the FloppingAces blog today. I really didn't mind a couple of planted questions - if a candidate wants a discussion of a topic that isn't likely to be raised...but _this_ is ridiculous!!

How can you vindicate them? In the real world, it's impossible to prove a negative. In the reality-based world, it's impossible to prove a positive, if it is something bad about a prominent Democrat. They hold contests to see how many irrefutable proofs they can ignore before breakfast.

Clairk -

Would you happen to be one of the Kernai?

Fully agree - there's no amount of proof (up to and including using a time machine and a video camera) that would satisify the 'reality based' folks. Their reality bears little resemblance to our own....

Yep, I'm one of the Kiernaii. :-)

I've been frustrated for months with trying to communicate anything to the "reality-based" crowd. Their little virtual world has some massive filters on it--even powerful stuff like 100 million dead from socialism can't penetrate the firewall.

(Try this next time someone says they're socialist--don't try to talk them out of it, just ask them "National or Soviet?")

Welcome to the blog, then! Feel free to look around, comment on what moves ya...

Well, kinda.

Months?

I've been trying for years. There's no getting through to them - their thinking seems to be strictly binary. If it isn't 'perfect' according to their opinion, it must be scrapped and replaced with something they know is 'better'. And that 'better' thing is NOT subject to criticism.

However, they're real good at thinking in bumper-sticker slogans. I'll give them that much. Too bad the world is far more complex than that...
