John - It's a magnifying glass, showing what's underneath your mouse cursor. Run your cursor across the middle, after it finishes loading. As far as the first two links go - either you get the LOLCats or not...

I still don't get it. I let it load and then ran my cursor all over it, but I didn't see anything.

He's doing a take(rip?)off on the LOL bucket walrus.
His other stuff is real good too. I particularly recommend "Nip and Tuck" and "Tales of the Questor".
