GOP establishment rallies around Bush - John Bresnahan - Politico.comSo we've got, what, 100 senators? At the same time, Senate Republicans pushed through a nonbinding resolution stating that "precipitous withdrawal" from Iraq would "create a safe haven for Islamic radicals, including Al Qaeda and Hezbollah, who are determined to attack the United States and (U.S.) allies." The vote was 94-3.
94 voted for this non-binding resolution.
Byrd, Feingold, and Harkin voted against it.
Kerry and Kennedy, oddly enough, voted for it, as did Boxer and Obama.
Strange, isn't it? They're so wanting to see Iraq fail, but put things to a NONBINDING vote... and they won't vote to see it fall.
Of course, nonbinding resolutions don't mean anything.

Let me get this straight here then. If we combine the messages from our two houses of Congress, the general consensus message is "Let's get the hell outof Iraq now, KNOWING that we'll be turning it over to terrorists." Is that it? No wonder they say Congress is the opposite of Progress...

I think that they voted for it with a different idea of what "precipitous" means in this context.

Ben -
Yeah, that pretty well sums it up, I think. They know Iraq's gonna burn, but they'll do it anyway because it'll hurt Bush.
That's sure looking to the long term, isn't it?
