Islam and Communism...

Looks like those who miss the good old days of the USSR see a 'kinship' in certain forms of Islam.

Gates of Vienna: A Communism for the 21st Century
Hmm. Using multiculturalism to open the door for socialistic philosophies, and thinking Islamic fundamentalism can be made to work in that setting...

Man, I'd love to see a history text from 2400...

What is being seen goes under the title of Transnationalism which has three main parts of it with the first two being the clearest, and the third unaddressed because of where it is coming from: Progressivism, Terrorism, Capitalism. Each of these three are working in their own views to institute a higher than Nation State governing ethos that is unaccountable to Individuals or Nations. While International Socialism/Communism has its background and historical role, the spread of the ethos of 'larger than National' government is now one that has slipped into Capitalism which sees much good in the free-flow of unaccountable labor, the removal of enforceable rights and the homogenization of culture. That 'free trade makes people free' mantra has been so repeated that many believe it without question, although it has garnered little freedom and has put liberty and freedom at peril by supplying cheap arms and support to the enemies of it.

By opposing those who wish to stand up for the differences in Nations so that they each may have different outlooks on the world and offer it variety, Transnationalism is a direct threat to that and the entire Nation State system.

No matter which of the three types you see, they all represent a return to oppressive government, the ending of the support of Individuality and the removal of special history to any group. And I don't particularly like *any* of the three types as they all mean the exact same thing: Empire.
