Scratch this joker off the list of folks I'd possibly vote for.
Obama Overstates Kansas Tornado DeathsOddly enough, when questioned by others, the folks on the GROUND said they had all the help they needed, and could handle. But the governer's a Democrat, oddly enough.RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Barack Obama, caught up in the fervor of a campaign speech Tuesday, drastically overstated the Kansas tornadoes death toll, saying 10,000 had died.
The death toll was 12.
"In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died—an entire town destroyed," the Democratic presidential candidate said in a speech to 500 people packed into a sweltering Richmond art studio for a fundraiser.
Obama mentioned the disaster in Greensburg, Kan., in saying he had been told by the office of Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius that the state's National Guard had been depleted by its commitment to the Iraq War.
I know it's all political posturing, but stuff like this (and that) make it real hard to maintain my objectivity on the political front. I'm trying, but they make it so damn difficult.

Soon many who have never died shall live again!
No, that does not sound like a winning campaign slogan... And the hyperbole, rhetoric and just trying to circumvent the Constitution by Nancy Chamberlain... Pelosi! That's it, Nancy Pelosi... just goes beyond belief. Just concentrate all the power to Congress and it will all be fine in a jiffy!
And don't mind the terrorist sympathizers, especially those that are *lawyers*. They are just sweet, swell folks making sure that illegitimate war can be waged and the US can do nothing about it as that is a 'right' donchyaknow?
Such fine people these blowhard appeasocrats.

10,000 Dead due to Bush's WAR!
In an article published in October 2006, The Lancet calculated the number of civilian deaths caused by America's invasion of Iraq to be at least 650,000. The statistical methods the Lancet's used to arrive at this total were immediately called into question by independent experts and the actual number of civilian deaths was put at less than 100,000.
After harsh critical review of the Lancet's data gathering methods from several prestigious statistical journals the number was later officially reduced to around 50,000.
During the same period Iraqi Body Count, a leftist blog site but still considered by many to be the most accurate available resource, put the Iraqi death toll at around 30,000.
Despite being dismissed as vastly overinflated by many experts, I have seen the numbers for the original 650,000 death toll defended in Lefty Progressive journals as late as May 2007.

Seeing how the vastly inflated Iraqi death toll from the Lancet has held up I bet we'll be seeing references to the 100,000 dead in Kansas in somebody's election speeches as the various anti-Bush candidates stump for the 2008 Democratic primaries.

I know we're on different pages regarding the Iraq war, etc, but regarding the Governor of Kansas:
Whatever you think of her recent statement, she's got a really good head on her shoulders. She's a democrat elected in a deeply conservative state. I grew up in Kansas, and many of my friends who remain there are lifelong republicans. And even among republicans, she's a very, very popular governor who manages to build a coalition across party lines.

I do wish that folks who put forth that the National Guard does not have enough equipment or spares or such would point their finger directly at Congress which *determines* what is bought and in what quantities. In this case the Kansas governor had a rebuttal from the Kansas Reserves which clearly and demonstrably showed the numbers of people and equipment available.
The Executive does not set levels of equipment, stores, supplies, manufacturing and all the necessary things to support the Armed Forces of the United States. The Executive is Commander in Chief. The folks that set up who gets what and how much is Congress as that is their power under the Constitution. The lack of Congress caring about the Armed Forces of the Nation has been going on for over a decade and is *not* attributable to a single party.
So when you hear a Congresscritter going and complaining about stores, supplies and equipment amounts and readiness for the Armed Forces, that is not an indictment against the President: it is a confession of being unable to do the job given to that Congresscritter.
And anyone who does so that is *not* in the Congress is: clueless about the Constitution of the United States.
