The speech Bush should give: Murdoc Online
Pres. Bush has been pretty bad on the PR front. The media, bless their little shrivelled hearts, has noticed this and done what they could to make the situation worse and coopt the dialog with THEIR agendas, and that makes things even more difficult when trying to get information out.
We need to learn sound bites aren't the whole story.

There are Long Term Consequences to Defeat.
The Left wishes to absolve itself of Vietnam after pushing to leave there. The blood of Vietnamese who trusted us, and those who died under the ensuing spread of Communism into Cambodia and Laos, are on the hands of the Left. The ensuing decades in which the industrial power of the USSR that *had* been tied down supporting Vietnam could then be turned to other places: the Ogaden, Angola, Mozambique, Nicaragua, El Salvador and a little place called Afghanistan. We may remember that as the cradle of this new form of global terrorism that was formed to support jihadis there.
The Left has much to answer for in making our world more dangerous in more places and causing body counts that have been horrific. Because America was scratched and politicians dithered about doing the only thing that ends wars like Vietnam: invasion and occupation.
For that we now pay, and dearly with an enemy that is no Nation and yet seeks to bring down all Nations and remove rights by force and create Empire. No good comes of running out on your friends in a fight...
You can pay the butcher now and lay him to rest while it is cheap... or you can pay him later when he comes to your house to visit. Best choose quickly.

Yes, there's long-term consequences - but the Dems don't give a damn. They're focused on 2008, on getting control in 2008, and if they've got to climb over the corpse of a free Iraq to do it that's just too bad.
Of course, there might be a tipping point beyond which someone who's been a nominal Democrat will be going "Who are these people, and what have they done to the Democratic party" a la Zell Miller - and if enough bail, they'll be done for.
Frankly, there's no way in hell I'd vote for a Democrat for President at this point - the current crop are just too damn foul.

J - The Democrats have failed the National Security test: they don't believe in it unless it includes huge government programs. By not addressing Radical Islam's spread to South and Central America, that can slowly change its face to something that seems innocuous... and deadly, nonetheless. By trying to address terrorism as a mere criminal matter, they refuse to deal that these are acts of warfare committed outside the framework of Nation States which, as they have missed, is the basis to have freedom and liberty. There is no *better* amongst that field. By refusing to call things as they are under Treaty and Law, by being unwilling to fund enforcement of the Laws of the Land and our Armed Forces and by being unable to formulate *anything* that will prevent another 9/11, what we get is wishful thinking based on fantasy.
Zell Miller and Joe Lieberman are the last of that old guard. They have no voice within the party and it refuses to hear this idea that to have a Nation it actually must enforce *being* a Nation as is the Right of Nations. Apparently we can't all get along in this world and, even more fun, is that the globe has shrunk via telecommunications and jet travel so that oceans are no protection against attack. We cannot isolate ourselves from the world nor seek to appease tyrants and dictators. That recent whirlwind Appease-a-thon by the D's and R's in Congress sounds distrubingly like 1937 and 1938. For those high minded Leftists saying that we can't ignore history... just limit it to the period of 1968-74... there is a rude shock involved: appeasing tyrants gets you war.
It doesn't work.
To get to Westphalia took the 30 years war and by 1648 15-20% of Europe was dead due to war... and even more to plagues that followed. That was the birth of the Nation State which allows freedom of worship regardless of National religion. Whenever any Nation tries to *change* that, be it Communist, Fascist or Imperial Islamic, it needs to be opposed. Which means KSA, Iran, Syria... not because they are bad regimes, which they *are*, but because without the basis of freedom of worship you will NEVER get peace.
Appease such and we are guaranteed decades if not a century of religious based warfare. I shudder to think of that 15-20% of the world's population dead due to that and *more* to plagues that will follow-on the decay of civil society. Those two, alone, can drop the population basis of the planet by 1/3 to 1/2, because it was seen as easier to appease tyrants and dictators rather than stand up for the basis of civilization. That is the path the Democrats are leading for this Nation and the world.
I have a survival instinct.
It has been ringing hard and continuously for the past few years... I hope to get out of the DC metro area by mid- to late-summer. al Qaeda has the region on its target list. And the Democrats seem to be unaware of that. They can step in front of the bus, I will risk my life and leave *now* while the getting is good. To anyone else this would be a hassle, but due to my condition it will be dicey and day-by-day. My government is losing its survival instincts and, as they are Representing the minority that votes, that means that there is a high factor of not having that in a large segment of the population.
I will continue to support this Nation and criticize it as is my right. I, however, refuse to go down with my government. To be able to 'build a more perfect Union' one must *survive* first. I hope nothing bad ever happens here, but I can say that I no longer have that as an expectation.
