Well, that's what it boils down to. Set a date we'll be gone by, with milestones the Iraqi government must meet or we'll pull out earlier.
Gee, why don't we just surrender now? Cut loose the Iraqi government to sink or swim?
By the way, have you noticed something rather peculiar? A quick glance at the headlines...
MSNBC at 11:35 PM - one story on Iraq - "Making Peace With Iraqi Death Squads". "Weekend Strokes Have Higher Mortality Rate" is placed above it.
FoxNews - Former Soviet Nation to Double Troops In Iraq. rates a small line entry, while Woman Living with Dead Roomate gets a headline.
Drudgereport - There's an entry about the Dem's plan to pull out - but nothing else.
No disaster, no car-bombs, no mention of the surge... nothing.
What's odd about this picture?

So sad. We may as well nuke the place and save them from living under the asshats who plan to take over.

It's 1975 all over again. Doesn't matter what happens to the people of Iraq, as long as the Dems can get a political advantage.
Man, I don't think I'll ever be able to vote for ANY Democrat ever again - even for dog catcher.

And the wonderful place that the Democrats do want to fight? Afghanistan! Yes, they have no clue of what mountain warfare is about. So far I see Congress unable to actually try and forecast supply needs for the Armed Forces, unable to properly fund and oversee the VA, unable to fund for new procurement necessary replacements and stores along with spare parts... and that is during *peace time*. They are incompetent as a whole and disingenous about their goals. The Democrats are the worst of the lot, but both parties have been at fault for over a decade. It is no wonder that the Democrats have no clue about warfare as they refuse to learn anything about it. Even though that is their *job*.
All budgetary forecasts, outlays, size of the Armed Forces, what equipment they get, their level of pay, the level of care, how much in the way of stores and spares is available, and funding all of that comes from Congress. The President *purposes* and Congress *disposes*... and Congress has been writing its own pork-festooned budget for decades, while ignoring the proper funding of the Armed Forces.
Now we pay with stupidity, ignorance and grandstanding by those not doing their job at the expense of the Nation. I decried Congress on these things with Republicans and Democrats *both*. It is an equal opportunity club Upon the Hill, to pay one's cronies, backers, and lobbyist with pork from the Federal budget *before* ensuring that the defense of the Nation is seen to.
And now that the bill is obvious in lack of spares, ill-treatment of veterans and poorly planned outlook for supplies and spares, Congress wishes to run from its responsibilities.
Again.
If the Republican Party had shown any capability at formulating a long-term war support capability and properly funding the Armed Forces so that their duties would be properly served, they would not be on the outside looking *in*. They may be able to stop the hatchet from falling, but they are doing no good in continuing to bleed the budget dry for their petty needs.
No one from the previous Congress or this Congress can look forward to my personal vote on anything, ever again.

They are definitely showing a determined ineptitude. It would almost be funny if it weren't so damn serious.

"It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native criminal class except Congress."
And
"Suppose you were an idiot, and suppose you were a member of Congress; but I repeat myself." - Mark Twain
Even then it was not good, but by making it a restricted access club, and needing to get to the lowest common voting denominator by increasing the number being represented, the great Aristocratic Families of Europe have nothing over Congress. It will only be a matter of time when the in-breeding becomes evident, but already the ideas have bled freely out of the institution because there is nothing left to clot them up and heal the Nation.
