Good f'king riddance

BBC NEWS | Middle East | Saddam Hussein executed in Iraq

Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been executed by hanging at an unspecified location in Baghdad.

So. Will the dead-enders give up the fight now? Will he turn into a martyr figure? Will this serve as a healing moment for Iraq?

We'll see what the day brings.

What a surprise that the Communist News Network decided against showing the entire hanging of the visibly frightened saddam.

And yet, CNN has no problem showing terrorist videos of terrorists ambushing our troops.

One CNN reporter had the gall to say that saddam couldn't look heroic because his hands were tied behind his back.

Saddams in that special place reserved for inhuman psychopaths now...justice is a dish best served at the end of a rope.

The Ba'athists have lost a figurehead and Baby Asad just won't do for one in Iraq. Those few Ba'athists left in Iraq have seen the wall and handwriting close-up for many months, now. Saddam's end was just the finger moving along and slowly pronouncing each word: Your Time Is Gone.

Ba'athism, in its twisted form, lives in Syria and even there it is a minority of a minority, where only a small Alawite enclave rules from within a Sunni enclave and that is only the largest of a plurality. Syria has played the 'poor man's game' of the Middle East superbly, lacking only in Saddam's means, not his ends. The last descendant of Fascism from Germany now lives in Syria. The last of the detritus of WWII living in the abominable state created by WWI and then administered by the French... then the Vichy...

For months it has been al Qaeda in Anbar, the Ba'athists dwindling against them and then trying to join the other tribes against them and told: 'No'. Sunnis are not coming back to rule over anyone in Iraq. Syria supports those last holdouts and al Qaeda and anyone else they can funnel any ill-gotten gains towards.

By rights, Syria should be next as the Iranian petro-infrastructure starts to implode over the next 5 years. 'The Poor Man' will survive *that* intact and with the full monty of WMDs - Chem/Bio/Nuclear plus long range SCUD-Ds. The perfect extortion suite for the 'Weak Sister' of the Middle East. The Asad family has played their neighbors for generations now and have survived absolutely everything: Israel, Lebanon, breaking with Iraq, loss of the USSR, hatred from Turkey, being an apostate and working with Iran. Their goal is fit to their means and their means scanty but vicious. The thousands dead at Hama can give their mute testimony to how Asads will deal with those they do not like. Syria has only lacked the money of Saddam, the Asad family has not lacked his ruthlessness.

Good riddance to the trash of Saddam.

There are lots of piles of trash still waiting to be picked up and the rats and maggots fester and spread their disease across the globe from places like Syria, Iran and the smiling Kingdom of the Sauds.

This fight started with Jefferson.

Jackson could only send the first US ship around the world to put Islamic Pirates on notice... with a warship.

Teddy Roosevelt started the fight against the Islamic Moros in the Philippines after the 'Real War' was over and that took a decade to finally end.

WWI brought the Ottoman Empire to an end and fractured the Middle East as none would hold to agreements or wanted to, in that far off set of lands.

Fascists worked hard in Egypt and the Wafdist creed merged with Islam. Germans brought Fascism to Syria, Lebanon, Iraq. And no real settlement in the Middle East could be done because of the Cold War.

The Stasis is gone, the shifts of demographics, clan, tribe, ethnicity, religions and everything else that was poorly put together in the 1920's and not abided by is shifting.

The world is small now.

For all of its distance the Middle East is just a couple of blocks over from us. We dare not run for we cannot hide any longer.

If we quietly go on, then 2007 will be the year that Empire returns to Earth and the sons and daughters of Liberty squabbled like children, while butchers came for them.

We did not start this fight.

Jefferson would not pay tribute.

Jackson would brook no interference.

Roosevelt would ensure friends we had saved would be safe as best as could be done.

Now the United States is in the one place where all these old problems meet up and everything is within its reach. Putting an end to tyrants is necessary.

Giving the infection of Liberty and Freedom is the cure.

We can safeguard only our own Liberty, but we are damned if we let those seeking it and asking for help to die without us. Without our Friends and Allies America stands isolated, alone and hated for her freedom.

We did not start this fight.

But we sure, as hell, must end it, or our children forever curse us for cowardice and the light of liberty slowly die.

While the shadow of Empire rises once more.

Ben:

CNN - Saddam 'heroic'? Oh, for pity's sake....

Look, I have no doubt that Saddam looked pretty pathetic. If I were being hanged, I don't think I'd go out with any real dignity. But HE didn't deserve any dignity at all. Hell, for my preference they could have greased the rope with lard and made him wear pigskin underwear.

He's dead, and CNN's trying to turn him into the next Che'. Great. Just... great.

AJacksonian -

You've hit it. There can be little to no security for any while we allow dictatorial cesspools to spread their stink across the world. One at a time, they're finding it harder to maintain their isolation. The shift is slow, very slow...

But it must be done, it must be maintained. Otherwise... well, the freedoms we've fought for will go by the wayside.

J.

J - I am tired of the so haughty Left that thinks harping on a 'small world' paradigm means instant buy-in on their viewpoints. There are all sorts of ways to view a 'small world' and we, in the Republic of Free People, are not limited to the number 2.

So, those that had previously been isolationist now have to see that this is not viable. Yup, its a 'small world' all right! Pretty nasty set of neighbors a couple of blocks over, wouldn't help them if their house burned down... try to do that to mine, well, you gots what is coming to you.

Can't really say its an ideology, that. Just a bit of plain, ordinary, common sense... which seems to be none of those to the Left today. Be that as it may we must grow stronger with our Friends and Allies so we can be stronger together and work together on those things which afflict us. Not in the old Communist way, but the good neighbor/good friend mode of the world. The one that actually *builds* societies.

I dictator has gotten fair justice for those he ordered killed, far beyond the 148 in this trial. Justice served and the trash taken out, help clean up the house and start addressing the filth being thrown in from the neighbors. What a neighborhood!

JLawson:

Yeah, but it's the only one we've got. So we've got to take care of it.

J.

J - So true... can't just fire them and elect a new neighborhood. Now, if we could get a good space program together...
