Once again, North Korea is tottering...

And the fall is going to be spectacular. The Corner on National Review Online has a bit more info.

Also, looks like the Party Hearty dictator's having some medical problems.

The Steel Curtain between NK and the rest of the world's got a few holes in it. And the economy's in such a state that if it weren't for the US, they'd have probably collapsed by now.

Of course, there's skepticism about that, and thoughts about what will happen when it does. Time will tell...

Great articles. Looks like there is some hope after all.

I just hope Kim Jong nutbag doesn't push the big red button as his last act of defiance.

There IS that possibility, of course...

But you know something, Hammer? I'd like to believe that either he won't, or some stooge close to him will shoot him if he tries. I know NK is your typical 'cult of personality' dictatorship - and things usually get REAL interesting after something like that occurs. But I'm really hoping that there won't be one all-out spasm as he's dying where he tries to take down the rest of the Korean peninsula...

If you read much history you find out that dynastic governments usually falter on a very common genetic principle; talent is only weakly inheritable and ability isn't inheritable at all.

Most cultures where the eldest son of the ruler inherits rule usually fail because of one simple fact, sooner or later a son will be born who is just not as capable a ruler as his father. "He just wasn't the man his father was," is the epitath of dynasties throughout history.

The Kim dynasty in Korea seems to be different. Each succeeding generation of Kim Jong (something) appears to be trying to dig Korea ever deeper into the hole his father started.

Oh, I don't know about that, John. Seems to me all you've got to have is a slavish population and a complete lack of concern about what happens to THEM as long as you can keep livin' the lifestyle. Doesn't take much talent or ability to wreck a country - what takes talent and ability is making it grow and prosper.

Then again, that could have been sarcasm, right?
